DTES Datacenter – Security and Sustainability
Our supplier’s data centre was engineered as a Telco Hotel; the building is structural steel frame with concrete fooring, covered with anti-static tile. 96 Tons of cooling provides controlled cooling resources to data centre. Redundant FM 200 units are interlocked with HVAC systems and backed by dry pipe pre-action sprinklers (eliminating leak or premature discharge of water).The data centre is currently in the final design and implementation phase of a sustainable cooling strategy using passive ventilation; cool outside air, securely ducted into our premises to cool our facilities allows for a reduction of cooling load and power consumption. The exterior of the building is built with a 14’ tall, 2’ thick limestone frieze, preventing unauthorized entry from the exterior of the building. Proximity cards are required for building access. Key Fob activated biometric scanners prevent unauthorized access to the ?oor space, and each customer is segmented with ?oor to ceiling cage. Remote security cameras record all activity in and outside of the facility, and building security will notify local police at the slightest imperfection of entry.
Our Dell PowerEdge servers are equipped with redundant hot-swappable power supplies. Switching devices are connected to redundant power distribution units to provide power redundancy for our switching and routing fabric. Each physical 42U cabinet is equipped with 4x30AMP drops, connected to 4x30AMP APC Switched PDUs (AP7902). These four links work in active/active pairs, allowing for power dispersion across separate circuits in the physical building. Protected by a DC power plant, UPS Devices, and a Diesel Generator — our per server power segmentation is a strong competitive advantage we hold in the industry.
We utilize connectivity from Time Warner Telecom, Level 3 Communications and Integra Telecom. BGP provides redundancy between the three primary upstream providers, should one fail, trafic and routes will divert to the operational links. Each link is treated with equal priority, allowing for the best path to be chosen. Our distribution layers utilize a multiple switch approach (Foundry BigIron), and combined with VRRP provides our access layer with active uplink connections. Our access layers are segmented environments, each with its own active/active pair of fiber uplinks to our distribution network. We pair a set of access switches and distribution uplinks with two 42U cabinets.
We own and manage our platform of vendor certified hardware. Our current specifications for server deployments are as follows:

We offset disk redundancy concerns with the usage of server grade SAS disks in RAID-10 configurations. We offset our power redundancy concerns with dual power supplies, each which connects to a separate power distribution unit (PDU) fed by independent power sources.
Our backup and archiving infrastructure utilize Continuous Data Protection (CDP) software provided by BBS Technologies, Inc. CDP is a server software application that enables disk-based data protection and disaster recovery for servers running a Linux or Windows based operating system. CDP Server protects disk volume data using synchronization over LAN and WAN networks storing point-in-time snapshots in disk-based storage. Both of our Datacenters are enabled with CDP backup/archiving platforms. All servers are backed up every 24 hours to onsite and offsite locations. These backups occur between 10:00PM-6:00AM Paci?c Standard Time and occur at the block level, putting minimal strain or load on the production and development servers. Onsite data backups are retained for a period of 30 days. Offsite data backups are retained for a period of 90 days. On the 31st or 91st day of the cycle, the oldest incremental snapshot will be purged from the storage arrays. Our Continuous Data Protection platforms allow multiple forms of data restoration:
- File based restoration
- Block level bare metal restore
- Mysql granular table level restoration
Data restoration to a remote server or location over a LAN or WAN Data restoration services are provided at no additional charge, and must be requested by an authorized person assigned to the Network Redux account. Restoration procedures can occur 24/7/365 and are given priority queueing over standard backup procedures in our CDP platforms.
